I wanted to look more into Pes’s process and what gives him such impressive ideas, it turns out there are lots of interviews with the filmmaker on this subject and it was a really interesting read. Becoming more interested in the process which other artists use means that I am able to refine my own practice and adapt my own techniques. In my previous project I used a lower quality camera and that was visible throughout the editing process and in the final piece, after reading Pes’s advice I knew I needed to produce this using a higher quality camera and use the animation equipment available in the A/V room particularly the rostrum to help with lighting and stability.
Using larger objects to film with means that a much higher quality is achieved in PES’s work and it allows more of the details to be strongly visible within his videos. You are able to see him moving things ever so slightly within the shots, there appears to be a constant movement within the video and its clear that there is a very specific way in which the filmmaker needs each of his shots.
